a romantic, spring wedding at great marsh estate || bealeton, va

maybe it’s because the temperatures here in d.c. are creeping down towards freezing, or maybe it is because this was one of my top favorite days as a d.c. wedding photographer, ever. but i’ve found myself thinking back to these great marsh estate wedding photos over and over again as of late! and when you’re done perusing through them here, check them out on one of our favorite wedding blogs, grey likes weddings, here.

back in the spring of 2018, i hosted a workshop for photographers alongside my sweet and talented friend hannah bjorndal. as part of our education, we orchestrated three styled editorials, planned by the lovely claire duran events. our first shoot of the day was a romantic, ethereal spring affair. filled with pastel colors, soft tones, and exquisite details, everything came together so perfectly. there was a definite mr.-darcy-and-elizabeth-bennett type energy about it, and i mean, can you really ever go wrong with that?!

i can’t say enough about the incredible team of vendors who pulled together to make this happen! from the insanely beautiful styling and design from claire, to the stunning florals by my amazing friend sofia of casa delirio, to the watercolor cake from fluffy thoughts… sheer perfection. and don’t even get me started on the bespoke, foiled invitation suite from wild hearts calligraphy! our real-life couple models, maura and tim, are the kindest (AND gorgeous) couple, as well! and the hair and makeup from valerie hammer and shear society studio couldn’t have been more classic. the lavender-inspired welcome basket from the welcoming district really tied it all together, as well. great marsh estate weddings offers an incredible backdrop as well– an incredible property, and the best bridal suite we’ve ever seen!

it was an honor to get to work alongside some of d.c.’s finest while teaching some really remarkable photographers! although we didn’t host any formal, in-person workshops in 2019, educating other creatives still has such a special place in our hearts. and we’ve got big plans for 2020 on the education front, so hang tight!

in the meantime, enjoy this beautiful shoot, and think of warmer weather…

katie + tony || a floral-infused frederick douglass maritime museum wedding || baltimore, md

somehow we’ve struck gold time and time and time again with our clients. as baltimore wedding photographers, we are fortunate enough to have the chance to capture beautiful events, but we also luck out with the most heartfelt weddings ever. and katie and tony’s stunning baltimore inner harbor wedding was no exception. alllll the tears, you guys! being 26 weeks pregnant didn’t help on that front, either 😉

after photographing their spring engagement session during tulip season in roland park, we knew these two were our kind of people– so sweet, laid-back, fun, and serious pup lovers. so it’s natural that we had been looking forward to their wedding for months!

their wedding planned by the incredible moore & co. events was packed to the brim with a mix of classic and contemporary details, lovely florals, and so much fun dancing! katie looked absolutely gorgeous in her maggie sottero gown, and her look was tied together with flawless makeup and hair and soft blush bridal details. and can we talk about that ring for a minute?! definitely what bridal dreams are made of. tony and his groomsmen looked so dapper in their coordinating tuxes, too.

their harbor side wedding ceremony at the frederick douglass maritime museum was so idyllically baltimore and very sentimental. the love that these two have for each other is truly remarkable. and it showed in every aspect of their wedding! their day was littered with thoughtful little gifts from one to another with the sweetest love notes. after a cocktail hour by the breezy pier, they celebrated with a fun and intimate reception in the contemporary reception space overlooking the water. we were graced with the most beautiful golden lighting for portraits and a pretty sunset. and lots and lots of sprinkles.

this bright fall wedding was another one for the books! congratulations, mr. & mrs. hoffer!

XO,
anna + mateo

emily + joe // pond view farm wedding

it has been a rainy few days here in d.c., which brought us back to one of the rainiest days of the year, which just so happened to have coincided with emily + joe’s pond view farm maryland wedding. we’re not exaggerating when we say that it was the rainiest day– but also such a joyful day! from the time we arrived, the downpour just wouldn’t stop! luckily, pond view farm offered a beautiful, covered porch for a first look and portraits. emily + joe kept a close eye on the radar and waited out the rain (so calmly!), and it was as if by fate, the rain cleared up at 3:57 for their 4 p.m. ceremony. the farm’s staff jumped on it, and by 4:02, they were walking down the aisle. and the rest was history!

we loved their rustic, elegant, sage green and neutral decor and their joyful wedding and fun reception! there were so many non-stop smiles, lots of cute kiddos, and the most divine dessert bar. love really is sweet, you guys 😉

and can you believe that willow tree and those views?! such a beautiful, beautiful day.

can’t get enough of these two? check out their maryland farm engagement session from last fall! we love working with this family and cannot wait for emily’s twin’s wedding next spring.

hope you’re loving married life, e + j! see you in a few months.

XO,
anna + mateo

kathy + bryan // barns at hamilton station vineyard wedding

it’s no secret that virginia weddings are forever some of our favorites. there’s just something about those rolling hills that seem to go on forever that has our hearts. so naturally, we jump at any chance to photograph virginia weddings– especially at the beautiful vineyards in northern virginia and southern maryland.

when kathy + brian approached us about photographing their barns at hamilton station vineyards wedding, we pretty quickly knew that it would be a great fit! the barns is one of our favorite spaces with gorgeous scenery and unique features. event studio did an incredible job tying in summery, bright florals in every aspect of the design and coordinated everything so that the day went off without a hitch (even in the sweltering heat!)

we loved kathy and brian’s laid-back personalities and hearing more about their love story. their sweet bond was undeniable, and we adored having the chance to capture their sweet interactions with their daughters on this special day. almost every time that i hear walk the moon’s “shut up and dance,” i think of kathy dancing with their youngest. enjoy all of the pretty vintage touches of this virginia vineyard wedding!

thanks for letting us be part of your day, k+b!
XO,
anna + mateo

liz + taylor // intimate wedding // salt lake city, ut

i don’t really know where to begin with this one– another wedding that has such a special place in my heart.

being destination wedding photographers, we have gotten to explore some pretty beautiful places. in august, we had the pleasure of returning to one of our favorite places and  flying out west to utah in to shoot one of my dear friend’s wedding. liz + i became fast friends in high school; we met at a church camp in san diego, and spent every sunday night on the phone for the next few years. i was a beach bum wannabe, and she was my california amiga. we reconnected after a few lost years in college (turns out, we can still talk until four a.m.!), and so of course, i was completely honored when she asked me to photograph her nuptials this summer.

elizabeth + taylor chapman are the perfect match. even their names sound perfect together; don’t they?! and their wedding day was perfect, too. they chose to have a an intimate afternoon gathering of close friends and family at the gorgeous joseph smith memorial building (formerly hotel utah) — filled with tears, laughter, and the best ice cream/cookie bowls this side of the mississppi. liz is one of the sweetest people that i know; she has this contagious smile (and impeccable taste!), and i’ve never seen her smile bigger than on august 9th, 2014.

i loved getting the chance to get to know taylor + liz as a couple (the nicest people around, i tell ya!), to spend time with them + their families, and to photograph their special day. celebrating your love was the best.

XO,

anna + mateo
