2013 // year in review

2013.

this year has been the most challenging year of my photography career. i worked through equipment problems and illnesses and discouragement. but hands down, this year has given me the most growth as an artist, a business owner, and a person. i graduated college, so i was able to focus on photography for the first time– to explore and experiment and dedicate myself to creativity, originality, and growth.

and i really, really loved it. it has been so rewarding to have another year of weddings + portraits under my belt and to watch myself morph into the photographer i want to be. i spent nearly half of the year living, working, traveling, + volunteering abroad and the other half hopping on planes and shooting weddings all over the south (okay, texas) and west.

i photographed orphans in malawi, friends in europe, and beaming brides all over the united states. i photographed 15 weddings, six stylized shoots, a few brave lds missionaries, some seniors, some fun families, orphans in malawi, a famous (!!!) blogger, friends in europe, wallabies in australia, lovers in chile– many, many beautiful individuals, no?

i’m overwhelmed with gratitude for my opportunities and my many remarkable clients. again, i have worked with so many incredible individuals who have shown me a new cultures and new perspectives.

and after all of it– the jet lag and the hundreds of hours of post processing and the cameras– i still love my job. i still love photographing people in their elements. i still love capturing the earth’s beauty. i still love love.

a huge, huge, to-the-moon-and-back thank you to all of my clients who made my work possible this year. thanks for believing in me, for trusting in me to capture your special moments, + for becoming my friends.

i loved the craziness of 2013. and i’m already loving 2014! i already have some wonderful clients lined up, some adventures to be had, and lots and lots and lots more photographs to take. although i will be transitioning from being a primarily utah based wedding photographer to a baltimore based wedding photographer, i’ll still be shooting destination portraits and events!

i’m rejuvenated and more excited than ever to make art, to meet (and photograph!!) more beautiful clients, to explore this amazing earth, and to keep learning.

i foresee nothing but good coming out of the year 2014! let’s make some magic together?!

travis + jessica // bridals // draper, ut

jessica + travis.

it’s been decided that i really like these two. check out their engagements if you don’t believe me!

jessica is a wise, wise soul, and wanted to get a formals session in before the freezing temperatures of winter hit. she loved the idea of a romantic bridals session in an open field, so we found the perfect location and went a little crazy with the golden november light.

these are easily some of my favorite formals i have ever photographed. i loved so much about this session! the people, the light, jessica’s veil, jessica’s dress… i could go on and on and on! but instead, i’ll just let you take a look at the images…

you see what i mean?! SO beautiful. so much love. so good. and just WAIT until you see their wedding i shot a few days ago! it just gets better…

XO,

anna

elise + esteban // holiday portrait inspiration shoot // part two // morrison, co

the holidays are just the best. the candy, the family, the cookies, the kisses, the lights, the snuggles– alllllll of it!! so after finishing part one of our holiday engagement inspiration shoot, i had to share the warm, coziness of part two!

we brought to life some of the happiest christmas traditions lights, and mistletoe kisses, and all kinds of old-timey love.

a special thanks to my beautiful best friend + her handsome boyfriend for modeling for me. love to you, elise + esteban!

p.s. we know that’s not real mistletoe. but i mean, sometimes you’ve just gotta improvise, right? and it’s not like it stopped them from smooching…

have the safest, warmest, coziest christmas, everyone!! i’ll be back with more photo love next week.

XO,

anna

oscar + emily // wedding // oquirrh mountain, ut

when i say nothing was going to stop oscar + emily from enjoying their wedding day, i mean it. these two were determined to have the greatest happiness– to have the best day of their lives. and i’m 115 percent sure that’s just what they did! despite the craziest rain storm of summer raining out their backyard reception, the day started out full of happiness and light, and it ended just the same!

emily + oscar are the most joyous pair. every aspect of their wedding day was so perfect. after being wed in the oquirrh mountain lds temple, we snuck in some gorgeous bridal portraits and family photos before heading to their reception. their reception was filled with heartfelt words, a homemade cake (by the bride herself! so talented!), and a blend of cultures. emily learned a song in spanish to sing to oscar, and there was so much fun salsa dancing. and after the first dances, oscar, emily, + their wedding party busted out in a surprise flash mob performance of one direction’s “one thing.” so much fun! seriously, i couldn’t stop smiling.

mr. and mrs. (now jimenez) are two remarkably nice individuals. they’re two of the most down-to-earth people i’ve met, and i’m so lucky to call them friends. i also don’t know if i’ve ever met anyone so calm and relaxed on their wedding day… they were just busy taking in the moments and enjoying every second of it!

i loved photographing these two’s joy and love. i loved meeting their wonderful families and getting to use my spanish (thegroom’s sweet family is from mexico). i loved allll of it. and i think you might too!

congratulations to the jimenez family! i hope you’re enjoying your first christmas season together.

XO,

anna

p.s. this was my first time shooting at the oquirrh mountain lds temple. and i can’t tell you how much i enjoyed it. SUCH a pretty temple. and let’s just say that i wouldn’t be mad if i got the chance to shoot there again in the near future (hint, hint).

jake + amber // wedding luncheon // salt lake city, ut

i’m reaching into the archives a bit tonight to share one of my favorite winter weddings to date– and just in time for these two’s one-year anniversary!

amber + jake’s salt lake city lds temple wedding last december was one of the snowiest i’ve ever been to! there were fluffy snowflakes falling throughout the entire day, leaving the most magical environment for a winter wedding. after their sealing in the lds temple, there was an intimate luncheon planned in the neighboring joseph smith memorial building (one of my personal favs for weddings!). the luncheon was filled with delectable food, a gorgeous view of the temple, and the sharing of many, many sweet memories and words.

i have known jake as long as i can remember. his family is my family; we grew up together and continue to travel together to this day. he’s one of the most driven, sensible people i know, and when he loves something, he treats it well. amber is lucky enough to be that something that he loves, and the more i get to know her, the more i’m impressed by her. she’s smart, down-to-earth, and kind– a killer combination. and i’m not sure if i’ve ever seen someone glow as much as she did on her wedding day. seriously beautiful!

i a loved getting to photograph this event amidst so many of my favorite people, so many of my family and friends!

and if you’d like a real-action glimpse into their lovely wedding, be sure to view their winter wedding video here.

there’s nothing like that view! or a beautiful wedding so full of love. happy one-year to the corkins!

and if you like what you’ve seen, check back in a few days for corkin wedding round #3– their colorado reception!

XO,

anna
